Get a Feel for the Missouri Landscape from an Artist POV

Artfully Missouri: An Exhibit of Paintings by Gale Stockwell will be on display at the Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum at 220 Ferrel Street, Platte City, MO.

Visitors can see how Gale Stockwell helped preserve history in his paintings from 1930-1970 of the farms, wheat fields, homes, towns, historic buildings and countryside of Northwest Missouri. His most well-known work is an oil of Main Street, Parkville, which he completed for the WPA in 1933, during the Great Depression. In 1971, Stockwell discovered that this painting was hanging in the White House, on loan from the Smithsonian Art Museum where it now resides. Exhibit visitors can compare its image with a watercolor of Stockwell’s that depicts a similar scene. The numerous paintings on display showcase town and landscapes.

Admission is $5.00 for adults and $1.00 for children under 12.
